Relations: Link tasks to related docs, files, and messages
Relations let you link related items together—so you can quickly jump between tasks, docs, files, links, and messages.
Relations are bi-directional, which means:
- If you link a doc to a task, the task is also linked back to the doc
- You can move back and forth between related items easily
This is especially useful for client projects where work is spread across different modules.
Add a relation to a task
You can link docs, files, links, and messages to a task.
To add a relation from a task:
- Open the task to view its details.
- Click the ellipsis (… ) icon.
- Select Relation.
Tip: When viewing a task’s details, you can press R on your keyboard to quickly open the Relation modal—no need to use the menu.

The Relation popup will appear.
- Search for and select the items you want to link to the task.

Add more related items
- After adding the first item, hover over it and click the + button to add more
- If multiple items are already linked, hover over the last item to find the + button

Once linked, you can click any related item to jump directly to it.

Add a relation to a doc, file, link, or message
You can also create relations from other items.
To do this:
- Open the doc, file, link, or message.
- Click the Relation icon in the top-right corner (next to the Watchers icon).
- Search for and select the items you want to link.

Relations help keep all related work connected—making it easier to navigate complex projects and keep client work organized.
